Canada's physicians' body to streamline approval process for foreign-trained doctors to relieve shortag

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada agrees the accreditation process for doctors trained overseas is too cumbersome so it'll increase capacity in its review process so applications and exam eligibility are dealt with more quickly. The certification body's also proposing specialists who don't meet all the Canadian requirements to practice in their chosen fields to be allowed to provide healthcare in more general disciplines. The college will expand the Practice Eligibility Route program to shorten the time required for an internationally-trained physician to be approved to work in their specialty from seven years to two. In provinces that require five years of practice in their fields, with the last two of those in Canada, the program could reduce the overall requirement to 12 weeks.
