Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital (ESMH) in Sheet Harbour, N.S. doesn’t have a physician and closed for the entire month of Jan. Provincial officials are planning to keep the ED open for good through a hub and spoke approach that's tailor-made for the area, which will be in place this summer. The model will combine the resources of three area facilities (Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Valley Hospital and ESMH) to fill gaps at any one of the EDs. The hope is that the approach will mean each hospital will work in conjunction with the others so that the community has at least one of the hospitals always opened. The approach could involve training and recruiting RN prescribers.
