One in five Canadians uncomfortable with PHI being used under any circumstances

A Leger study explored Canadians’ attitudes, utilization, perceptions and expectations around digital health privacy. Highlights include:

  • Three in 10 respondents say their perception of privacy of their personal health information (PHI) doesn’t have any impact on their willingness to use digital health tools;
  • Fifty-six percent believe their healthcare privacy rights are adequately protected by law. This is even higher among those who have a family doctor;
  • Respondents have a high level of trust in healthcare providers to keep their personal health information safe and secure; and
  • Most respondents would be willing to share their personal health information for secondary purposes.
