The Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP) is the first of its kind in the country. It focuses on how the SDOH affect patients, as treatments prescribed aren’t always medications. The institute brings together providers, community partners and links workers to connect patients to services. The hub is centred around social prescribing, prioritizing health equity and community leadership and encouraging collaborations. Health equity experts say Canada’s healthcare system doesn’t always consider SDOH when treating patients and believe the system should focus on how inequities and disparities impact outcomes.
