Doctor who came to N.B. faces long accreditation process

After immigrating to Canada from Iran in 2020, Neda Asgharzadeh had to start over to continue to practise medicine in N.B. While she delivered over 5,500 babies in her 15 years as a doctor in obstetrics and gynecology, she now has three exams plus as English test ahead of her, a process that could take two years with no guarantee of a job. Asgharzadeh, who also counts five years of experience working with seniors in a care home, wishes the process could be more practical and less time-consuming. To receive a license to practice in N.B., internationally trained doctors must pass exams through the Medical Council of Canada. In N.B., the path to licensure requires an assessment at a hospital. For her oral exam, she must travel to Ottawa and the next one will take place in Jan.
