People living in the Dauphin area have to drive three-and-a-half hours to Winnipeg to access a retinal specialist, creating financial burden and stress for the patient and family. This pilot project intends to improve access to care and will have ophthalmologists travel to Dauphin once a month to a local eye-care business. The province will cover travel expenses and supply costs for the project, while the clinic will provide space for the specialist. Participating specialists expect to see from 60 to 80 patients each visit.
