In the midst of an acute shortage of access to care, there’s a growing need to address potential co-morbidities in the urban Indigenous population. The Wije’winen Health Centre will offer medical services that are informed by language, ceremonial and cultural needs and will specialize in the complex health needs of the urban Indigenous population. The service was developed by the National Association of Friendship Centres and the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. When it’s fully up and running, the clinic will be able to treat 800 to 1,000 people annually.
