Queen University’s Indigenous healthcare resource teaches students about inequities within healthcare

A First Nations physician and a public health specialist created the interactive digital resources for students within Queen’s Health Sciences to learn about the biases, discrimination and structural inequities within the healthcare system. It covers themes including culturally safe healthcare and healthcare rights and includes artwork by Indigenous artists. Spurred by the federal Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action on healthcare education, a community-led collaborative team of over 50 people came together to create the resources. The project emphasizes the importance for healthcare professionals to learn how to provide culturally appropriate care and to understand one’s own internal biases.
