Engagement

Two Indigenous patient navigators were hired to work at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. The role was conceived through consultation with First Nation stakeholders. The navigators are there to meet the cultural needs of Indigenous patients by facilitating arrangements for patients who want sacred medicines, receiving referrals for inpatients, informing patients on care options and offering community engagement. There are now plans to expand the program and bring the role to the Vitalité Health Network. Such navigator roles were created in multiple provinces.
