Students' mental health deteriorated in the last two years as isolation and the global health crisis took a toll on people's ability to cope. The three-year campus peer support pilot will be led by the CMHA and see 100 students hired across the five universities. The program aims to recruit peer support workers with lived experience dealing with mental health or substance abuse issues. The paid positions will connect fellow students with existing mental health resources. The program’s funded with $2 million from the federal government, which will go towards the creation of the training program by the CMHA, as well as the costs of training and paying the peer support workers.
