B.C. icreases funding to keep walk-in clinics open until end of year to combat doctor shortage

The $3.46 million in short-term stabilization funding will maintain five walk-in medical clinics in Greater Victoria. The province says the funding will keep the clinics operating while it works to find a long-term solution to southern Vancouver Island’s doctor shortage. The Ministry of Health is also continuing discussions on piloting an urban locum program, which will focus on recruiting new-to-practice family physicians to provide coverage within the local primary care networks. As well, the ministry will examine the potential for an after-hours call coverage service supporting local clinics.
