Palliative paramedic program being expanded to six more provinces

The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) and the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) will extend a program whereby paramedics provide palliative and end-of-life care to individuals in their homes. The program is based on existing models in Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and Alberta. The partners will provide $5.5 million in funding through 2022 to bring the program to over 5,000 paramedics at the following organizations:

  • N.B. Department of Health;
  • Eastern Health in N.L.;
  • BC Emergency Health Services;
  • Saskatchewan Health Authority Regina Area;
  • Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority in Manitoba;
  • York Region Paramedic Services in Ontario; and
  • Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
