A report on B.C. health trends from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer shows that the rate of diabetes is improving, as is the rate of mortality due to preventable causes. However, the study shows work needs to be done on the following over-arching measures to get them to 2023 targets:

  • Number of years of healthy living (79 for female, 76 for males);
  • Infant mortality rate (3.4/1,000 births); and
  • Self-reporting life satisfaction (36.4%).

The provincial health officer also found negative trends relating to the consumption of fruits and vegetables and hazardous drinking.
