Healthcare services can be challenging to access in French for non-binary people, because gender-neutral language, such as "they" or "them," is not commonly used in French. In French, the neutral pronoun "iel" was recently integrated into the language by the transgender population. Still, some non-binary people in Windsor-Essex are uncomfortable accessing services in their first language, which forces them to seek services in English instead. But some explain that seeking healthcare services in English can be problematic because of language barriers with healthcare professionals. A member at an organization for trans people in Windsor, W.E. Trans Support, provides French services at a local health centre. With the training it offers, the group believes healthcare professionals should be able to better understand the importance of gender-neutral pronouns.
