First Nations students at Calgary HS initiate elder-in-residence program to support mental health

Developed with the support of the Mental Health Commission of Canada's Headstrong mental health program for youths, Indigenous students in Calgary developed an elders-in-residence program at their high school. The students' solution involves an elder who's available for counselling or to conduct Indigenous spiritual practices at an on-site tepee. The idea was to provide a culturally-sensitive safe space for Indigenous students who may be feeling isolated from their communities.
