Alberta's health minister says that after a year-long delay to make it compatible with smartphones, a province-wide online patient portal will be operational by next April. Sarah Hoffman explains that when first proposed, the idea of making the system work from personal digital devices wasn't considered. The portal will enable patients to access to their health information, including lab results and prescription records. Work on the project began in 2008 and has so far cost $34.3 million.
