A pilot project at Western Hospital in Alberton has caught the attention of the CMA. President Dr. Gigi Osler was in P.E.I. to have a first-hand look at Western Hospital’s tele-rounding project, which was launched in August. Tele-rounding was introduced at Western by Ontario telemedicine company Maple. Osler is there to understand the challenges Western faced during the project and said the healthcare system is still catching up to new technology. She believes tele-rounding opens the door to investigate what virtual tours could mean for specialist care. Based on a study by the CMA, Osler also says the general population is interested in virtual healthcare.
