Fraser Institute estimates median wait time for medical treatment at just under 20 weeks

The Fraser Institute states that in 2018, Canadians could expect to wait 19.8 weeks for medically-necessary treatment. Nationally, wait times were longest for orthopedic surgery (39 weeks) and plastic surgery (28.5 weeks), while the shortest was for medical oncology (3.8 weeks). The report found a wide discrepancy of wait times, with Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan all under 16 weeks. At the other end of the scale were the Maritime Provinces, with median waits of 45.1 weeks in N.B., 39.8 weeks in P.E.I. and 34.4 weeks in N.S.
