The physician-led Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC) says that not only is antibiotic resistance a $1-billion problem for the health industry every year, it's expected the price tag related to the issue will grow if action isn't taken now. IPAC estimates that antibiotics are overprescribed in Canada by 50%, adding most of the drugs aren't being dispensed in a hospital setting, making the real scope of the problem a mystery.
