Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister sent updated mandated letters to all cabinet ministers, spelling out a vision for the departments. The letter sent to Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living Cameron Friesen includes the following commitments:
- Implementing a comprehensive plan for health transformation, including completion of the Clinical and Preventive Service Plan;
- Developing an implementation plan for a mental health strategy, guided by the VIRGO consultations and including mental health and addictions programs and services;
- Developing a sustainable funding model to construct 1,200 personal care home beds by 2025;
- Enhancing emergency medical services to rural Manitobans;
- Continuing progress on reducing ambulance fees by half;
- Improving doctor recruitment and retention; and
- Establishing a dedicated provincial stroke unit.
