The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is collaborating with a family medicine group in the city to allow patients - accompanied by caregivers or family - free admission to its exhibits. Under the one-year pilot project, physicians will prescribe "art" to patients with a variety of mental or physical ailments. A doctor participating in the initiative says it's well-known that exposure to art improves the mood of patients with depression or other mental health problems. However, there are benefits, too, for those in palliative care or with a chronic illness, like diabetes.
