Winnipeg Regional Health Authority reports lower hospital wait times after one year of system overhaul

It the first phase of a healthcare overhaul in Manitoba a year ago, the WRHA closed Misericordia’s Urgent Care Centre and the ER at Victoria Hospital was changed to an urgent care centre. The COO at the WRHA says this year has seen record low numbers of people in hospital beds waiting for long-term care, as well as empty capacity in personal care home systems. There’s also been a reduction in hospital wait times. These fluctuate month to month, but the WRHA is seeing a positive trend. She explains the changes were focused on how the system was organized and how it functioned. WRHA made changes that allowed it to reinvest in some services and strengthen services so that could provide better quality and more timely care.
