Being active is shown to be beneficial in slowing disease progression in patients with dementia. Toronto-based Baycrest will open a centre for brain health and wellness in which patients use a gym or a pool, or take part in activities such as arts and crafts, dancing or computer games. Participants will be paired with a caseworker, who'll record what the patient is involved in and tracks their long-term disease progression. Through the research, Baycrest is trying to establish which activity - or combination of activities - provides the greatest benefit to patients.
