Umbrella Medical Clinic opened in September and intends to fill a gap in healthcare service by offering such services as transgender healthcare, to emergency contraception and HIV prevention. Beyond improving access to services, the doctor operating the clinic also hopes to improve awareness and combat misinformation about sexual health. The clinic’s owner believes transgender healthcare and other services such as getting timely contraception, emergency contraception and IUD insertions aren’t services regularly offered by family doctors. Additionally, she states having these services more readily available will reduce wait times for patients as specialists are too busy and she insists this situation creates a delay in services when timing is crucial.
