U.S. non-profit healthcare provider part of outpatient antibiotic prescribing initiative

The patient-centered initiative targeting outpatient antibiotic prescribing is part of Intermountain's commitment to the U.N.'s Antimicrobial Resistance Challenge. The U.S.-based healthcare provider will reduce inappropriate outpatient antibiotic use for upper respiratory conditions by 50% in 2020 using novel antibiotic prescribing metrics with prescriber feedback, EMR tools, education for patients and providers and a public awareness campaign. Intermountain will also launch the Healthy Patient Initiative to improve patient hygiene, environmental hygiene and caregiver infection prevention.
