The volunteer services and patient support for the Yukon Hospital Corporation say it’s been very successful in running a program called the "Morning Brew Crew". It started two years ago and has about 60 regular volunteers and the hospital now needs more. The volunteers go from room to room, knocking on a patient's door, saying "good morning," and asking if they'd like a cup of coffee or tea. The program includes a First Nations cultural support worker and people helping out in the emergency waiting room and at the information desk. The idea is to do what doctors and nurses are often too busy to do - stop and chat with patients about things other than their health. The morning rounds with the coffee cart can take from an hour and a half to two hours - depending on how chatty the patients are.
