A student of the LPN program at Oulton College claims she failed her first two attempts at the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) over the past year. She wrote it for a third time and is awaiting the results of the test, but if she continues to fail, she’ll have to repeat her studies. She explains that, because of the cost of the exam, some of her fellow students won’t continue taking the exam after failing the first or the second times. The exam, including associated fees, cost about $1,000. She suggests N.B. should adopt the Regulatory Exam - Practical Nurse (REx-PN) used in B.C. and Ont. as the licensing exam. The Association of New Brunswick Licensed Practical Nurses reports there were 234 students who wrote the CPNRE between NBCC, CCNB and Oulton College in 2021 and 177 of them were successful, meaning 57 writers failed the test.
