While standard hospital ORs are prepared for complex surgeries requiring six staff per room and a full set of sterilized instruments, the Ambulatory Surgical Centre takes patients away from the standard ORs and pairs that down to only what’s needed to operate on ambulatory patients. The surgeries are done at ORs outside of the hospital, though they're managed by the institution. Staff are at least 30% faster than in the hospital's standard ORs. They perform between 10 and 15 surgeries a day in two ORs. The ambulatory centre says it offers a great patient experience since people receive care before and after the surgery at the same spot by the same nurse. London Health Sciences Centre intends to scale up to four additional ambulatory ORs.
