CMHA finds Federal government falsely claims to invest twice as much into mental health

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) found that the average percentage of new federal money going to mental health care is only 15%, contrary to the federal government's claim of 30%. The report, 'Overpromised Underdelivered: Analysis of Federal Mental Health Care Investments in the 2023 Working Together Health Bilateral Agreements,' highlights that most provinces and territories are spending a small fraction of the new investment funding on mental health services. Y.T. is an exception, spending approximately 66% of new investment on mental health services, while Man., P.E.I. and B.C. aren't using any new bilateral dollars for these services. The report also notes a lack of consistent nationally comparable data to measure health outcomes and impacts of investments in health.
